... but for the life of me, I can't recall its significance. I found
the cotton configuration that made the d" chanterelle stable enough to
tune the movable bridge, and could then put the whole keyboard in tune.
I saw a pattern develop, though, that I know I've seen before: The
octave tangent strikes the string at a 90-degree angle, and all the
others seem to be leaning away from it. That is to say, the tangents
for the higher notes incline toward the wheel, and those for the lower
notes, toward the pegbox, as if the keys were placed too closely
together. What does this mean?
