I'm so sorry that I won't be able to come to OTW this year :-( I have really enjoyed the past couple of years, and have made so many lovely friends too. Maybe next year...?

I would like to announce that registration is now open for the 15^th Annual Over the Water Hurdy-Gurdy Festival. Brochures will be going out this week, but you can find the brochure on-line at: www.overthewater.org

The Over the Water Hurdy-Gurdy Festival 2010 will be held September 14-19 at Fort Flagler State Park near Port Townsend, Washington (USA)

The Over the Water Hurdy-Gurdy Festival brings together hurdy-gurdy players, builders, and teachers for intensive instruction, jamming, fellowship, and good food. Classes cover melodic techniques, rhythm, repertoire, and instrument setup and maintenance, with instruction tailored for beginning through advanced players.

Evening events include instructor concert, an open mike, and many jam sessions (including slow jams for those of us who don’t learn at warp speed). On Saturday evening we will gather for a dance party featuring live music by Festival participants, who collectively form the largest hurdy-gurdy band in the Western Hemisphere.

Our instructors this year are:

Thierry Nouat, Hurdy-gurdy in the French Tradition; Tobie Miller, Early Music; and Scott Gayman will be instructing beginners. There will be some Focus and Speciality classes and Instrument Set-up and Maintenance.

Some loaner instruments will be available at the Festival for use by players who don’t have hurdy-gurdies of their own.

The Over the Water Hurdy-Gurdy Association is a nonprofit group that promotes use and enjoyment of the hurdy-gurdy and disseminates information to players and the general public on all aspects of the instrument, including history, repertoire, and playing techniques.

We hope to see you there. If you have any questions, please send an email to: [email protected]
