Katie,
I hope this isn't too late to fill our work place. We had our home broken
into Friday evening and lost most of our electronics (my lap top, Mel's
monitor, and several other things. We have had tospend much time changing
numbers and pass words and file claims. then Saturday my Aunt died and so the
last three days were involved with funeral arrangements and visitations etc. On
monday we had to take Mel's mom to the hospital where she will probably stay
for several days and then be a bit vulnerable when she comes home. the bottom
line is that now we have neither the money, time, or freedom to come to
Washington for OTW this year. it is a great disappontment but it doesn't seem
that we have any choice. Mel's Dad is doing poorly too. Even if the time and
money situations cleared up, there is too great a chance that we would have to
cancel at the last minute anyway. I am so sorry and will stay intouch as to
next year. Ann for Mel too

Katie,
We are sooo ready! still trying to decide the best way to get Mel's new
gurdy out there as it is a bit bigger than the other one...
We appreciate the work-study program and are already signed up. With air
fare too, OTW would be an impossible dream for us otherwise. Maybe some day
when we get the gurdy business grown, we will be able to recipicate in kind.
Thanks again for all your hard work. I will send our registration and check in
a couple weeks. Take care. Ann

I would like to announce that registration is now open for the 15th  Annual
Over the Water Hurdy-Gurdy Festival.  Brochures will be going out this week,
but you can find the brochure on-line at:  www.overthewater.org

The Over the Water Hurdy-Gurdy Festival 2010 will be held September 14-19 at
Fort Flagler State Park near Port Townsend, Washington (USA)

The Over the Water Hurdy-Gurdy Festival brings together hurdy-gurdy players,
builders, and teachers for intensive instruction, jamming, fellowship, and good
food. Classes cover melodic techniques, rhythm, repertoire, and instrument
setup and maintenance, with instruction tailored for beginning through advanced
players.

Evening events include instructor concert, an open mike, and many jam sessions
(including slow jams for those of us who don’t learn at warp speed). On
Saturday evening we will gather for a dance party featuring live music by
Festival participants, who collectively form the largest hurdy-gurdy band in
the Western Hemisphere.

Our instructors this year are:
Thierry Nouat, Hurdy-gurdy in the French Tradition; Tobie Miller, Early Music;
and Scott Gayman will be instructing beginners. There will be some Focus and
Speciality classes and Instrument Set-up and Maintenance.

Some loaner instruments will be available at the Festival for use by players
who don’t have hurdy-gurdies of their own.

The Over the Water Hurdy-Gurdy Association is a nonprofit group that promotes
use and enjoyment of the hurdy-gurdy and disseminates information to players
and the general public on all aspects of the instrument, including history,
repertoire, and playing techniques.

We hope to see you there.  If you have any questions, please send an email to:
