This morning I received news of a new French-language web site offering
resources that many of us may find useful:
http://www.aepem.com
The site is for the Association d'Étude, de Promotion et d’Enseignement
des Musiques Traditionnelles des Pays de France, and in addition to
their remarkable catalog of CD's, the site also offers an on-line music
library which I personally find astonishing. The many, many tunes there
are in ".mid" format, and also in a music notation format called ".myr,"
readable through a browser plugin which can be downloaded through links
on the site. For me, at least, therein lies the rub. My primary
environment is Linux, and the plugin is only available for the Windows
and MacOS environments. On my Mac it appears to do nothing, and on
Windows the results seem inconsistent, always odd and sometimes
unreadable. If it works for you, please send word. This library appears
to be a remarkable resource, and I'd love to be able to make use of it.
