Ok, that is the silliest joke ever said.

When you said re-tune to modal scales, I assumed that you meant to reset the
drone causes the overall effect to vary like that, to be modal.
Perhaps more modal would be a way to think of it. If modal was to mean
exotic sounding. A simple major mode is called ionian, it seems.
I enjoyed your narrative of the encounter.
I sort of think an Egyptian mode might resemble a major scale with a flatted
second.
