Michael,

Maybe one thing to consider is actually going to digital publication. I know 
that that sounds like it would be playing right into the problem you identify, 
but you could line up a publisher that would indelibly watermark the copies 
sold. Each page would have "This copy licensed to Joe Schmoe" on it and if 
anyone else has a copy with that, you would know who "leaked" the copy.
