16 samples is too short, I think. Calf Monosynth uses 256 (~5 ms), but
it must handle with some nasty cases like bass notes using sinusoidal or
heavily lowpass-filtered waveforms. Still, long 808 kicks may be
comparably hard to handle.

I find linear fadeout much better than exponential (which produces a
noticable noise, not surprising if you look at it in a sample editor). A
zero-crossing detector might give even better results but it's probably
overkill for Hydrogen. I never used or tested it myself, either.
