Hey wolke, I checked some drumkits and now I see the point for having multiple layers. I didn't understand that layers are actually the same instrument "overrecorded" (does that make sense?), rather I thought you put samples of different instruments in a single, merged sound.
Okay, now got the hang of it. What about other parameters? See, I could a snare right in the middle, then move the stick to the border. Isn't that another such parameter you could put in layers? What about two-dimensional, or even x-dimensional (user-defined) layering: Intensity on one axis and and position on the other one? I am not trying to decide over the community. But as you can see, it is often better to explain the intention than to defend an implementation (ie. thinking from the use-case).
