I know nobody asked specifically for it, but here's my cp worth ;)

I think moving towards an RC makes sense as the majority of changes since
beta 2 are bug fixes, and it doesn't look like there are any major new
features slated for 1.0 or critical bugs in the way. I took a quick scan
through issues and there doesn't seem to be anything genuinely critical. I
think also that calling something an RC tends to elicit more useful user
feedback than a beta, which ultimately is useful and helps get to an actual
1.0 release quicker.
