Typographical conventions vary very much between countries, and what
is acceptable for speakers of one language in one territory may be
completely wrong in a different culture.  (In other words: the devil
is in generalisation.)

While I have seen French text printed with an unconnected cedilla, to
eyes trained for French such shapes most definitely look fanciful.
