With temperatures finally moderating I got the airplane out today to take
some aerial shots of a DOT snow blower at work. Upon taxing out to the
runway, at the Boone airport, I was quite suprised to find 8 Gray Patridge
feeding along a taxiway. I was more astonished when I came back 2 hours
later and they were still there!! They were obviously more interested in
nourishment than being afraid of the airplane. I also flew over Beamers
Pond and observed quite a number of Trumpeter Swans there as Steve
Dinsmore had posted. At 3,500 feet the air temp was 40 degrees and back
at the surface the temp was 20 degrees.
