Clear Lake to Sioux City was a long trip--lots of ice covered roads.  Stuck
when we mired in an intersection by Dickens.
On the positive side was the sighting of two separate covey of Gray
Partridge.  First covey contained 8 and was seen 3 miles south and 2 miles east
of Dickens (about 1 mile from where we had become mired).   Second sighting
(12) seen east of Spencer (1 mile east of Hawk Valley Wildlife Area) on Hwy.
18.  We turned around to photograph them--they were about 50 feet north of the
highway but a snowplow, with about 40 cars behind it, came blasting by clearing
the edge of the westbound lane.  Needless to say they were nowhere to be seen
when we were able to get back.  My wife had to remind me that yelling generally
was not recommended as a way to coax birds in for a closer look.
Not much else except large numbers of Ring-necked Pheasants from Palo Alto
county to Woodbury.
God Bless,
