I birded my way to Lake Rathbun and back today. I was looking primarily for waterfowl and found 20 species. Highlights were:
In Poweshiek County, 4 Ross's Geese were at Diamond Lake. In Mahaska County, 15 waterfowl sp. were at Maskunky Marsh and the nearby Skunk River Bottoms, and a Eurasian Collared-Dove was in Barnes City. In Appanoose County at the Island View area of Lake Rathbun were 1 Eared Grebe, 1 Common Loon, 10 Ross's Geese, 20 Snow Geese, and 1 Greater White-fronted Goose. At Sedan Bottoms were 16 waterfowl sp. including 75 Greater White-fronted Geese, and 1 American Golden-Plover. In Wapello County, 2 Eurasian Collared-Doves were in SW Ottumwa.
