On a day of birding in SE Iowa (Burlington to Keokuk), we came upon the 
following interesting birds:

Long-tailed duck (4) - seen above the lock & dam at Keokuk (Lee Co.), as 
previously reported by Tommy Stone
Trumpeter swan (13) - adult and juvenile birds all seen at Trumpeter Marsh 
north of Montrose in Lee County 
Great Blue heron (1) - SW of Fort Madison at the end of 53rd Street, 
Mississippi River shoreline
Peregrine falcon (1) - at the top of the Great River Bridge in Burlington (Des 
Moines Co.)
Killdeer (8) - end of 53rd Street SW of Fort Madison, Mississippi River 
shoreline
Wilson's snipe (6) - Montrose Marsh, town of Montrose, Lee Co.
Glaucous gull (1 - 1st W.) - Riverview Park, Fort Madison, Lee Co.
Great black-backed gull (1 - 1st W.) - Riverview Park, Fort Madison
Northern shrike (1) - a good bird for SE Iowa, seen SW of Fort Madison along 
Co. X23
Winter wren (1) - Cascade Ravine in Burlington, a usual winter site for this 
species
