One of those "chicken-and-egg" things. If you have update access to the master cat, and no alias exists for you, datasets wind up in the mastercat (like ISPF list and log). So you can't create the alias. And of course because of the shared mastercat, no good trying another LPAR.
There are ways around it, but (generally) needs to be set up in advance :o) Easiest is to go find a mate with update access as well.
