Hi all, If you are attending the upcoming SHARE conference
SHARE 105 in Boston, MA August 21-26, 2005 http://www.share.org/events/Boston/index.cfm here is something for your consideration. You have probably seen requests on this mailing list and others for people to Chair sessions or will soon. It really is a very important part of SHARE and one of the things that makes it a real user group run by users. If you have attended previously you know what a Chair does but maybe not how much help a Chair can be to a speaker especially if something goes badly with the handouts, facilities, A/V, etc. A session Chair always gets a handout, gets the best seat in the house, and only works for a few minutes. If you have never attended the Chair helps with the administrative and logistics portion of each session by announcing the session, collecting evaluation cards, and otherwise assisting the speaker. There is even a session on how to be a good session Chair.... Session 0052 SHARE Session Chair Training Sunday, 6:45pm Sheraton Boston Hotel - Second Floor Exeter A/B Have you been collared to chair a session? Are you worried about session "protocol"? This session is designed for anyone who is chairing a SHARE session. We will familiarize you with SHARE policies and procedures for chairing sessions. We will give you some hints on how to run a session, handle the question and answer period, make arrangements with speakers, check out your audio/visual equipment, and do all the things that should be done both before and after a SHARE presentation to ensure its success. We encourage anyone who is chairing a session, or is thinking about chairing one, to come to this highly interactive session for an hour of fun and useful information. Speakers: Dr. Robert P. Rannie (Northern Illinois University) Frank Rosenzweig (TechKnowledge Corp) This session is educational and lot of fun! Dr. Rannie has been known to make interesting and entertaining demonstrations that will surely light a fire under you to be a good chair:-) If you would like to Chair a session or get involved some other way with the MVS/SCP Project at SHARE drop into our Working session especially the one on Sunday or Monday! Session 2801 MVS/SCP Project Working Session Hynes Convention Center - 3rd Floor - Room 301 @ 08/21/2005 (Sun) - 3:00 PM Are you interested in one of the areas for which the MVS/SCP Project schedules activities (e.g., the z/OS System Control Program, Sysplex, z/OS installation, HCD, TSO, processors, IBMLink, etc.)? Do you want to be added to the project mailing list so that you will receive newsletters and requirement ballots? Would you like to contribute to the project as a session chair, speaker, or project officer? Are there particular sessions you'd like to see the project schedule? If the answer to any of these questions is 'yes' (or even 'maybe') then this session is for you. Come join us in this open session as we plan the week's activities. Time remaining will be used to talk about SRCHGO, a freeware macro used to jump from Search-For results back to the matching member. Session 2802 MVS/SCP Project - Working Free-for-All Hynes Convention Center - 3rd Floor - Ballroom C @ 08/22/2005 (Mon) - 12:15 PM Do you wish you had the opportunity to sit down and discuss your own MVS or z/OS 'hot topic' with fellow mainframe 'dinosaurs' (and IBM)? Would you appreciate the opportunity to be in the audience when IBM solicits SHARE attendees' opinions on future software features, documentation, etc.? Are you comfortable speaking out in a small, informal setting? Then don't miss this session (and session 2806)! We won't know until the session begins exactly what will be on the agenda, but whether there are formal mini-presentations or just a chance to chat about what's near and dear to us, you'll have the chance to give and take with your fellow MVSers and IBM. Both of these session will give you an opportunity to volunteer to be a session chair or just hang out. If you are excited by all this and want to volunteer in advance of our usual onsite sessions just drop me an email OFF LIST and I can send you a list of session for which we don't currently have session chairs assigned.
