We have recently had a system crash during a period of moderate concurrent access on a PDSE,, One of our system programmers has determined that PDSE's are unstable, and that we should not be using them.

That's almost laughable. How does s/he intend to do away with the PDSEs that are *required* by z/OS??

I would be grateful for any group members experiences with PDSE's, or any links to documents describing issues or problems that may be encountered. with them.

Our default SMS data classes for DSORG=PO data sets have specified DSNTYPE=LIBRARY for over ten years. The only way to define an old-style PDS here is to explicitly code DSNTYPE=PDS.

From time to time we have had issues with PDSE just as we have with myriad other system components. We have never considered not using them. They're far too valuable.
