NON-SMS PDSE was a god send for system components and system programmers and
was one of the most recent examples of real skunk works success between
users and IBM developers.
Since the advent of the SMSPDSE address space PDSE's use little ECSA.
We use PDSE heavily including as the default libraries for our busy source
repositories and you can be sure these libraries are shared.
There have been some issues with PDSE but they have devoted a lot of effort
to continue to improve RAS with apparent success.

I used to think they were the kitty's butt, until IBM put in support for
non-SMS (post hoc, ergo propter hoc?).
It may be a bit of an exaggeration, or urban legend, but I thought I heard
that IBM has over 100 PTF's in the last year for PDSE's.
I know they consume (E?)CSA, and are easibly corrupted when shared.
