We have a z800 2066-0A2 and have used it as a master console only under z/OS 1.4 and prior on our test lpar before we had gotten another 3274. So if there are no other consoles available it should fall over to the HMC console. Its ugly though. Slow,not all messages appear and wouldn't recommend it for production machines. So turn off all consoles and it should work..at least it does for us, No setup require.
