Another point to consider is hardware maintenance. We schedule MCL upgrades to each machine once a quarter - each machine in a different quarter. MCL upgrades may or may not require IPLs (or PORs). If you have multiple machines in a correctly designed parallel sysplex, the effect may be less than if you are running a single machine.
Of course, this hardware concern may apply to DASD microcode upgrades and other hardware subsystems. Just something to consider.
