I listened in on this webcast as well, and then read the "Technical Q&A"
document on the Neon web site. Like the webcast, the document was long
on "Technical Q" and short on "Technical A".

Subject: NEON zPrime webinar
Just hung up on the NEON zPrime webinar. Yawn. It was a
carefully scripted
dog and pony show, with no spontaneous questions, and no meat
on the bones.
They brought in a lawyer and a code forensics expert to
explain how zPrime
did not infringe, but lacking the details of the exact zPrime
mechanism(s),
I found the webinar less than convincing. Sooner or later, if enough
revenue is put in jeopardy, there will be a lawsuit(s),
either from IBM or
an OEM software vendor.
The one thing I did find interesting is that IBM Global Services is
apparently a zPrime customer (ROTFLMFAO).
Regards,
Tom Conley
I was on it also. I did hear (or thought I heard) them say that ISV software would not be
made eligible for zAAP or zIIP. I did put in a question to that effect (My COBOL program
will run on a zAAP, but DFSORT won't?). Of course, I have no idea how zPrime could
"know" that a given program is in house developed or an ISV program. I agree
that, unless something unlikely happens, either IBM or a vendor (CA?) is going to sue
somebody, somewhere over this.
I didn't expect much in the way of "how does it work?" because that would
decrease the salability of zPrime. Damn, but I love FOSS code (open source).
