I think that before we go ahead and lay blame - unlike the manager of the airline who is blaming IBM - we had best wait and get more information. "Amateur" IBM apparently has control over the power grid in Australia, since it was a power problem that originally caused the outage. Yes, they say that IBM was maintaining the computer systems. Was it at an IBM facility or was it at the airline facility? Was the generator part of the IBM contract or is IBM being a convenient scapegoat for a facilities problem?
I have zero enjoyment in outsourcing or outsourced contracts, but I think we're jumping the gun on this one. In addition, if memory serves me correctly, the Register has a decidedly anti-mainframe slant to it.
