I think that before we go ahead and lay blame - unlike the manager of
the airline who is blaming IBM - we had best wait and get more
information. "Amateur" IBM apparently has control over the power grid
in Australia, since it was a power problem that originally caused the
outage. Yes, they say that IBM was maintaining the computer systems.
Was it at an IBM facility or was it at the airline facility? Was the
generator part of the IBM contract or is IBM being a convenient
scapegoat for a facilities problem?
I have zero enjoyment in outsourcing or outsourced contracts, but I
think we're jumping the gun on this one. In addition, if memory serves
me correctly, the Register has a decidedly anti-mainframe slant to it.

I agree completely. A VERY thorough post-mortem is required BEFORE any
