Right idea, but I disagree with the time frame. Edit was obsolete when display terminals became widespread. UCLA had a primitive full-screen editor on their home-brew interactive system long before I got there in 1972. In about 1976 the place where I worked part-time had the first true full-screen editor I'd ever seen. It was very 3270 specific and since it was a revolutionary concept the learning curve was steep, but it was leaps and bounds better than line mode EDIT for most tasks. OTOH, SPF was around for years before I stopped doing things like E foo.cntl;C /something/whatever/;SUB;END NOSAVE where ";" is a 3270 field mark. As always, use the best tool for the job. As to the original problem that sparked this thread, when I need to create custom JCL via REXX I find it much simpler to just QUEUE all the JCL and a null line and then "EXECIO *" it out to wherever. No separate model JCL member to maintain in sync with the customizer program. I highly recommend this approach. /Leonard ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
