Note: Data that is to be processed using the Encryption > Facility Client cannot be created using compression.
Now that's an "interesting" limitation. Seems to suggest that the
"Encryption Facility ..." can distinguish between a compressed (say, TERSEd
or ZIPped) "text file" and, say, a load module or program object. If true,
I must wonder why the effort was expended to code such "intelligence" into
what otherwise seems a quite useful (and simple) utility.
You misunderstood.

The IBM Encryption Facility has the ability to compress the data before it encrypts it, using the z/Series hardware compression. This generally improves performance, since there is less data to encrypt. Also, encrypted data is usually not very compressible by the tape hardware, so this reduces tape utilization.

But the Client can run on non-zSeries hosts, which will not have access to the hardware compression, so they just saying that you should not request the Encryption Facility to compress data which is intended to be decrypted by the Client.
