I'm pretty sure, Rob meant characters 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0,A,B,C,D,E,F,
not hex value of those two bytes in the member name.
Obviously LOAD%& cannot be used, because it is illegal member name.
However LOAD## can be used IMHO (although I naver used so called
national characeters in LOADxx).

I would say "NO" it not supported... Think of the different keyboards that
may not have some symbols.
I sure one of the smart guys on the is list can quote a ANSI Standard.

The suffix of the IODFxx has to be within a valid Hex range of 00-FF
Does the same restriction apply to the LOAD suffix. Does it have to be 00-FF
or can I use any two characters?
The IBM manual does not state any restriction, but I thought I'd better
check.
