Hello I have been using TSM server on z/OS for a few years Great product , easy to install , easy to migrate , easys to use . To day i have learned that the new billing policy for TSM had changed in 2 ways
1: if the server is on z/OS it will now be billed for the number of MSU of one of my Z/990 , never mind if i use only a small LPAR . We are used to this kind of ridiculous policy and it is the main reason why we are pulling out of the mainframe more and more So far so bad . ( one day they will charge my lotus license a million dollars because i use a 5 ghz pentium 2: But the worst was to come . They now want to bill us the client part on a number of engine basis . But the price of the client software is the same than the server software ( yep ! i mean what i say , the price of a TSM server on a 4 engine linux is the same price than the client part on the same machine .) I tried to tell them they must be wrong . to no avail .They say client prices are only for thinkpad or such . Having 150 or so dual engine to backup and a few quadri , the bill for 3 years changes from 70 000 euros to 350 000 euros . (90 000 dollars to 450 000 dollars ) My question is simple :Do you know other solution than TSM to backup my servers and it definitely does not need to be IBM . ( i am able to do that on z/OS server , AIX server , Linux servers or Windows 2003 servers ) I will have to backup around 120 + Windows servers , 40 or 50 Linux redhat on intel and some AIX if possible . You may use my below email .. offlist Thanks in advance .
