A local university recently held a mainframe programming contest, and the students' reactions were impressively positive. That in itself is encouraging. But I have yet to see a single resume from anyone like that cross my desk. It appears, at least for now, that the number of people being exposed in this way is microscopically small (I'm trying for an analogy that means "LESS than a drop in the bucket", but I can't think of one). So for now, it doesn't seem 's not enough to have any impact. That said, programs like these certainly are a first step in the right direction. Let's pray they are just the leading edge of a trend that will continue to develop.
