Long ago when I was an Amdahl SE and there was microfiche, I was
involved with a problem that was affecting only one MVS image out
of about ten. The system would run out of CSA and have to be IPLed.
That was the system that was used by their home-grown TP system
that was the order entry application.

It turned out that there was an SRM bug that only occurred when
running BTAM. It wasn't a very big piece of CSA that was not being
freed, but it was a pretty busy system. I wrote a zap to correct
the problem and gave it to the sysprog's manager. He asked me if
it was a bug in Amdahl code. I told him that it was an MVS bug.

He said that he didn't want to put an Amdahl fix on IBM code. I
went to the IBM PSR's office, explained to him what the problem was,
and gave him the fix. When IBM issued the PTF, it was just about
the same as the zap I created.

I didn't expect a medal, certainly didn't get one. Didn't even get
any acknowledgement, but I got something much better. From that day
forward, I always had an excellent relationship with the IBM PSR.
