Whether one uses SMP/e or a vendor equivalent, it produces a more sound system. I've had products that are load and go (Plug and play?) and while they may work OK, maintenance is usually a module level replace and you aren't really sure what you've got.
I've used Activator with similar success to SMP/e, and I've even got my own way of updating exits whereas they aren't usermods. I'm wondering if the originator of the thread is leery of SMP/e, or feels that there aren't enough hours to do it.
