Jon, >My question is, "So INSTALL writes the home address and record 0. So what?" What is the benefit of doing INSTALL and INIT vs just the INIT? (All of our DASD is on virtual arrays, in case that makes a difference.) I have never bothered with the INSTALL before; is there a reason I should?
The days when a 3380 was a 3380, etc.... We only used that command with true 3380 devices now called SLED (Slow Large Expensive Disks). I suspect that the command will probably issue an error message and quit, especially if you try against Shark or later dasd from IBM.
