Looks like it is a "service call". Which I should have realized because it interfaces with the "service processor" and HMC. <sigh> Since you are here. Is there any announced plans for z/VM to emulate the "integrated ASCII console" facility in z/VM so that a person could use a VT220 type terminal connection to a z/Linux instance under z/VM if there is some problem getting TCPIP working in a guest? I.e. use "telnet" to connect to a z/VM "service machine" which could then do something to present an "integrated ASCII console" interface to a specified z/Linux instance. Big discussion from one UNIXoid on the z/Linux forum on why using the "normal" 3270 interface is unacceptable to a "real" UNIX sysadmin (it's just too different and difficult to use - ascii async appears to be the only acceptable answer to this person's desire). Of course, this still assume IP connectivity to z/VM, so only useful if a z/Linux guest cannot get its IP interface working. I was lectured about the impossibility of emulating a VT220 on a 3270 device.
