And as usual, Tony's right.  The PWD program let vendors have a copy of PL/X on 
request; I of course requested it, and received the tape (an ordinary-looking 
minireel).  I had no actual need for it, so I never installed it.

This was during the period when PWD membership cost $5K/year.

A few months later, they made PWD free, and retroactively -- but those of us 
who'd asked for PL/X had to pay about $1600 for it, since GDL/POK/whoever had 
paid RDU for it internally.  (And of course it was then no longer available on 
request.)

So I got to go to my VP and give him the good news/bad news: "We're getting 
most of our money back".
