That was my first thought. I've worked in places that have that

The question I got was so bizarre to me, something like: "How do I
print
a PDF on the mainframe? When I print it, it comes out with the source
code of the PDF."
One the surface it seems like a reasonable enough question. In my
wildest imagination I expected the answer to be something like: "Yes,
certain IBM printer models have a dual mode of operation and can
handle
Postscript. Just add xyz to the SYSOUT parms on your JCL." Or even
better: "No, sorry. Send it to a PC printer if you need that." (Like
you said.)
Or even better than that: "Check which model printer you have and read
the fine manual. Some do, some don't."

I thought at first you were inquiring on how to display a PDF file on
a 3270. At one time (several years ago) there *SUPPOSEDLY* was a
vendor here in Chicago that IIRC claimed to do just that. I don't
know if the vendor is still around or what. It was a post-card type
vendor. When I first saw it I was mildly amused. Unfortunately I
threw the post card away, I wish now I had kept it as apparently
since then there have been several requests for such an animal. But
after re-reading your entry that was not what you requested.
Like others on here have said there are several printers that will
scan into a PDF file.
I have yet to hear of any IBM printers that can do this let alone PS
from the m/f. Thats not to say they don't exist.
Good luck in your quest and let us know if you find any.
