depends on what you mean by a "mainframe printer". if you're talking about traditional PSF-driven printers, I don't think so. but we use VPS and print to PostScript printers. we use the VPS exits to generate PostScript and wrap it around our SYSOUT to do forms and stuff. we've successfully experimented with sending PC-generated PostScript documents to those printers -- but never used it in production. don't know about PDF documents ...
