We do this because we tend to backup all the volumes in a storage group
"in one fell swoop" using DFDSS. All the datasets which reside in that
storage group have an HLQ which relates to the storage group. So, by
having the UCAT in the storage group, it is "in sync" with the datasets
in that storage group when we do our backups. IOW, the datasets (on
DASD) which have a given HLQ will reside in a specific Storage Group
(and no other) and so will be cataloged in the UCAT in that Storage
Group.

That is how we used to do it. Unfortunately, it was determined that too
many catalogues were falling in the cracks and not being backed up at
the proper time.
