Sam, As others have pointed out, it really doesn't matter where the catalogs are allocated.
In my opinion, what *does* matter are your DR considerations, *and more importantly*, what catalog backup and recovery tool your shop is using. As Ron Ferguson always taught, "Catalogs do break!"
