I don't see how leaving a bogus CDE in the system can possibly help with
the task of fixing the problem that led to the S106 ABEND.

If you fix the problem (S106 Abend) that led to the bogus CDE, you don't
risk getting a bogus CDE when you do a LOAD. :-)
