Unless you need to support the new holddata being received into your CSI, I 
don't think you need to do the UPGRADE.  That should take care of most
of your concerns.    For the z/OS zone and other IBM software zones that
you want to use with the new holddata, you probably need to wait until all
sharing systems are running 3.5, or run with a JOBLIB/STEPLIB that points
to the 3.5 level (and the required path / DDDEF to get to the correct
unix files that match the level (SMPCHOME).   

The easiest thing to do is to install 3.5 everywhere you can.
