Can you say "partial release on close", boys & girls?

That only is of use if the dataset is created once and then never updated (just recreated from scratch). Otherwise as you update/extend (disp=mod) the dataset, you tend to will add extents with each update since when you trim, you cut back to a cylinder boundary and the next update can fill the remainder of the cylinder and thus need a new extent for the rest of the data you want to write during this job.
