I seem to recall that the maximum size of a dataset is 65535,  regardless of 
how many volumes it resides on.

I don't remember if you have to do anything with SMS to support it, but LARGE 
does allow the dsn to span volumes.

Unfortunately, I've never had the opportunity to work at a shop that exploits 
it.
