Around 15 years ago I was involved in disaster-recovery from the operating system side - the MVS days. I remember that, at that time, I used to map the installation device addresses to the device addresses at the DR site. This meant that we could use our own device addresses and our own esoteric names without change. This was a normal part of MVS IO gen, etc. and did not require VM. . We are now involved in disaster-recovery at my present site. When I describe this facility to the Z/OS operating system guy he gives me a funny look. I scanned though some of the present manuals and do not see any reference to this kind of facility. Was the ability to do this kind of mapping lost somewhere along the way? I know that I did not dream it.
