Looks like values unique within a week can be compressed into 8 bytes:

1) 6 bytes as a "day fraction" of TOD obtained via STCK [reminder of 
TOD/X'0141 DD76 0000']; since the highest nibble of the result is always zero, 
it can be used to keep "day-of-week";

2) 2 bytes Programmable Field [obtained via STCKE once per region life].

And, in the unprobable case when a WRITE to VSAM KSDS with such a key 
returns "DUP", step (1) will be repeated and the WRITE will be retried.
