Bruce,

Welcome to the wonderful world of IBM Marketing. Since z990/z890 days,
hardware MSU and software MSU are not equal. Both the machine numbers and
IBM's published MSU numbers are software numbers. Each generation has been
discounted. This means that hardware MSU (what the machine can actually do)
are more and more out of line with what the software numbers (what the machine
says it can do, and what vendors use for pricing if they use MSU) are
different. In table form,
Machine Hardware Software
Z990/z890 1.0 0.9
Z9 1.0 0.81
Z10 1.0 0.72

So your z9 T03, rated at 95 MSU (your number), should get a hardware number of
around 117. Not exactly what the service units say, but they've never matched
perfectly.

While I may have some of the details wrong (I hope not) I hope this explanation
helps. I'm sure others will be happy to correct anything I have wrong.

Basically, I ran the REXX code against our z9-T03 and got SU=11477.7618 and
MIPS=236.654882. Errol tells me that this is per CP, so with 3 of them I get
SU=34433.2854 and MIPS=709.964646. With a bit for PR/SM overhead, the MIPS
looks relatively in the ballpark of IBM's rating of 692 MIPS.

Ok, now here's my big question. If I use SU to calculate MSU, I get
123.959827. Is this telling me that my 95 MSU machine is actually running at
124 MSU?
