If you determine that your shop desperately needs a particular PTF in
error, then open an SR to see if IBM will give you an APAR testfix. This is itself the start of a whole new adventure that you may come to rue down
the road. Reconsider the pill option. It's your choice.

Here is where I disagree with you.

It started when we were an ESP for CBPDO. The apply called out hundreds of no go PTFS. I researched most of them and called the support center. There was a PTF from 4 years ago that needed a TSO/e PTF (it was technically in error) as it was a not a TSOe PTF. We were in a catch 22 as we needed to be licensed for TSOe to get the PTF (with the IPO we became licensed) and IBM went into I can't give you ptf's for something your not allowed) We argued back and forth for a day and I even got the duty manager involved. After 1 week of getting nowhere I finally called a friend at the WSC and gave him all the info and explained that I had tried the duty manager etc etc... AFter he looked at it he called the people at WSC who were responsible for packaging and then it took him 5 days of discussion to finally get us that one PTF.

If I had not stuck it out the CBPDO would never have been installed and the 3800's would not have been bought.

I also disagree with as allowing a RC 8 can get you into trouble down the line so its better to be clean and not settle for anything of return codes eq or lt 4 (with SMPe).
