My Fortune 500 employer got off their mainframes by using SaaS vendors for most of the big BICARSA applications that ran on their mainframes. What back end those SaaS vendors use is anybody's guess. They also decided in the case of some applications that they would move to Intel hardware based solutions running Windows or Linux. They eventually had to state "we don't care about data integrity". Sure enough it was not long after that I got a marketing letter that said "Thanks for being a loyal customer since 1900."
