You don't need browser support, although it is convenient. What you do need is
a network definition that permits it. The reason that browsers dropped support
is that there are security issues. I don't know what the status of SFTP (over
SSH) is.

We have never used that here, so I'll check into it when IE goes away. We do
use https for downloading from ShopZ.

What about ftp links in ptfs? One of several examples from my last refresh in
January is OA58114 (the DPfD ptf). The 114 page pdf documentation is an ftp
link inside the ++HOLD. ftp traffic other than through a browser is blocked at
the firewalls, so while I am familiar with the ftp CLI I cannot use that,
either. I was sorely disappointed when I could eventually download the docs
only to find out that DPfD only works on a z15.

Regarding Quickref: We do use Quickref, but it doesn't help me at all when it
is brandnew information placed in a ptf (see above). Personally I prefer my
documentation offline on my private drive.

The Red Alert thing that went out was originally also an ftp-Link only. The
consolidated books mentioned here last week were ftp-Links only (never mind
that the inhouse-scan of the zip took longer than the timeout for the website,
so I couldn't get at that, either!).

I repeat my question: When is IBM going to wake up *everywhere* that ftp-Links
become inaccessible now that the browsers don't support them anymore? Just this
morning we were told that Chrome goes away corporately. Firefox is not allowed,
so we're stuck with Edge. Which doesn't do ftp anymore.
