I've been hearing "an Exec" (referring to VM) since 1982.
One has to keep in mind, however, that "an Exec" was also used for EXEC
and EXEC2.

command list.

Whether it's right or wrong, it drives me nuts. Nobody says "a bash", "a

A related pet peeve: "a software". Nobody but nobody says "a hardware".
