I see where the cringe-worthiness comes from though, seems to me that "I wrote a Rexx" is akin to "I wrote a Cobol". You write a program or an exec in Rexx.

I'd never heard before that this is cringe-worthy. And yes, now that I think about it, I used to write a CLIST, so it probably transferred. I never write a PL/1 or a VBA. --- Bob Bridges, [email protected], cell 336 382-7313 /* I was never ruined but twice: once when I lost a lawsuit, and once when I won one. -Voltaire */ -----Original Message----- From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Seymour J Metz Sent: Wednesday, June 8, 2022 06:59 While I cringe at "a REXX" or "a software", "an EXEC" doesn't bother me. I'm not sure why. Saying "a CLIST" is perfectly reasonable if you know that the name refers too a command list. ________________________________________ From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List [[email protected]] on behalf of Gord Tomlin [[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, June 7, 2022 6:17 PM Whether it's right or wrong, it drives me nuts. Nobody says "a bash", "a PowerShell", "a Java", "a C++", etc. To be fair people did say "a CLIST", and when they replaced CLIST [programs] with Rexx [programs] it was probably logical to them to replace the word they used to describe them at the same time. A related pet peeve: "a software". Nobody but nobody says "a hardware". --- On 2022-06-07 17:58 PM, Phil Smith III wrote: > Rexx came to TSO and people there often say "A Rexx" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The information contained in this message is confidential, protected from disclosure and may be legally privileged.
