There's a Christian missionary organization called Wycliffe Bible Translators whose goal is to send a small team (and by "small" I mean usually husband and wife or two brothers, like that) to these groups that speak a language that only a thousand people in the whole world use, to live with them and learn their language, and eventually to translate the Bible into it. A family I know did that with the Kogi indians in Colombia - that was a whole family, parents and I think three children - and when one of them came back on furlough I remember a discussion I had with him about the difficulties of translation. He of course was uncomfortably aware of the impossibility of doing it perfectly, and I in my youth (I had been a serious Christian only a couple years, I think) tried to reässure him that God will protect His words. I didn't convince him, and of course now that I'm older and can read several languages I see more clearly what he must have worried about constantly.
I knew of course that the story doesn't say two of everything. I did ~not~ know that it used a word restricting it to mammals.
